I am a Chartered Architectural Technologist with technical design expertise in both off-site manufacture and traditional on-site construction techniques. During my career I have undertaken roles at architectural practices and national house builders, but since the late '90s I have worked in senior design and R&D roles in the off-site manufacturing industry delivering construction system solutions for the residential, student accommodation and hotel sectors for both UK and overseas markets. I have been involved in diverse projects from traditionally built individual homes to large scale multi-storey student accommodation projects using volumetric modules.
My role is to help Sylva widen the scope of it's "in-house" capabilities to include architectural design as well as bringing my experience of off-site manufacturing and modern methods of construction to the wider business.
Lead Designer – Architectural
I am a chartered architect and landscape designer with over thirty years of varied architectural, landscaping and construction experience, gained from working on projects throughout the UK, Europe and South Africa. During my career I have been privileged to collaborate with world class architects, consultants and construction professionals and contributed to the delivery of many outstanding buildings.
Key Building Design & Project Experience: Private housing, shopping centres, retail, schools, offices, care homes, community buildings, crematoria, building conservation, transport buildings, landscaping and management of talented multi-disciplinary design teams.
Professional Qualifications & Courses: Diploma in Architecture, Canterbury. I am registered with the ARB, am a Chartered member of the RIBA, became a member of the South African Institute of Architects in 1980. I have also completed numerous courses including the certified RIBA Conservation, RICS Team Management and Psychodynamic Counselling courses and hold a Professionally Qualified Person’s CSCS card.
I strongly believe that good design, effective communication and collaborative working with the client and professional construction team, is essential for the successful delivery of elegant, sustainable and cost efficient buildings.
Lead Designer - Structural
17 years of experience within the timber construction industry with roles including estimating, design, engineering and consultancy for a number of timber frame and trussed rafter manufacturers and TRADA.
My role as my role as Lead Designer - Structural ultimately covers the design process for each assigned project from initial handover through to site installation. Typically this includes general project coordination, problem solving, ensuring deadlines for ordering, manufacture and drawing issue are adhered to and providing support for the site during the build process as required.
I have an interest in the use and detailing of modern construction materials/methods but also in the refurbishment of older structures where the retention and repair of existing material is a key factor.
Since graduating from University where I studied Architecture, I have worked on a wide variety of projects including new builds, SIP design to manufacture, extensions and conversions.
My role at Sylva as an Architectural Designer is to work closely with the client through concept, developed and technical design producing documents and drawings to turn the client’s vision of their dream home into a reality.
With almost 10 years’ experience in timber structures, my role at Sylva involves timber frame/I-joists floor designs and liaising with clients in order to provide them the best quality and cheapest solution.

Since I finished my bachelor degree in Structural engineering, I have had the opportunity to work in timber engineering industry for some years designing roof trusses, posi-joist and I-joist floors.
I am currently doing my master degree in architectural technology to get a thorough knowledge of the contemporary building methods.
My role at Sylva is to design the floor joists and support the architectural design department.
I am a qualified Interior Designer with a wide-ranging wealth of experience in interior and architectural design.
My career has included architectural practices and national house-builders; providing the concept, detail, budgets and installation of both private and show-homes nationwide. I believe that I combine the two essential elements of a professional interior designer, creativity and practicality, and will work with you to ensure we attain the desired overall look.

I have been in the construction industry for more than 30 years and timber frame for nearly 12.
As Construction Manager I do my best to deliver projects on time and to budget.
I become involved in a project from an early stage to ensure that once on site everything goes smoothly, this includes drafting crane plans and writing method statements as well as organising labour and plant.
It is my objective to help our clients achieve their objectives.
Working in the construction industry for nearly three decades I have accumulated a diverse range of skills and experience in Residential and Commercial Projects, in the UK, South Africa and France.
I started on site as an artisan and have progressed to Construction Management through a practical skills based trajectory which has involved Site and Man Management, Client and Architect liaison, coordination and management of Sub Contractors, Suppliers and Principal Contractors. I have good Man Management, Motivation and Problem Solving skills.
Residential build projects include renovation, restoration and extensions to grade 2 listed Manor Houses, Barns and buildings of Architectural note and New Builds of traditional and modern timber framing. I have been in the construction industry for 28 years, starting off as a plant operator and working my way up. The majority of my work has been spent on civil projects and moved into timber frames 5 years ago.
I am passionate about Health and Safety and have recently passed my NEBOSH qualifications. I endeavour to bring projects in on time and within budget but not at the detriment of safety or quality.
I joined the building industry as an apprentice carpenter. I have a lot of experience with reservations of listed buildings and getting them back to where they should be. I’ve been very fortunate to of travelled with my job and I have worked all over the UK delivering new homes to clients.
For the past 5 years I started to run a huge array of construction jobs, right from little extensions all the way up to new one off properties. I’m very good at attention to detail and helping the client get a better understanding on what’s going on and what will be happening in the coming weeks of a job.
I have been working in the construction industry in a variety of roles and fields for 15 years, predominantly in luxury residential and hotel refurbishment and new build. During this time I have site managed and project managed all the way from small works to multi-million pound refurbishments of country estates.
My hope in this role is ensure that each client’s project will be built safely, to the right standard, on time and to budget. My previous experience has reinforced to me that the best way for this to happen is through rapport with the client based on timely, clear and honest communication.
I have 10 years in the construction industry. Starting my way as a labourer I worked my way through as a painter, joiner and a fixer. I decided to make a change and become a supervisor and site manager. I’ve had the pleasure of being involved in number of project from small domestic all the way through to jobs for NHS (hospitals and GPs) to large commercial, residential and industrial sites.

I’ve been in the construction industry for 10 years. I began my journey as a Joinery Apprentice and have worked my way up through several roles including; Bench Joiner, Machinist, Foreman and finally to the position I hold today. This has given me a deep understanding and a keen eye for detail of all timber products throughout the construction process.
As the Workshop Manager, it’s my job to design and oversee the workshop in which we manufacture the timber frames. It’s my passion to make sure all items are made to our high standards and delivered to site on time.
As the Office Manager I am responsible for ensuring that the office runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible and that when someone is given an action to complete it does get completed.
I have nearly 20 years experience in sales, customer service, admin management/PA and HR roles from various sectors including telecommunications, medical, publishing and within the construction industry.

In my career I am very proud of being part of the conception of the ‘Look Good, Feel Better’ program at the Royal Free Hospital, supporting women with cancer.
As Marketing Manager, my primary role is to ensure that customers understand the full range of services and solutions which we can offer for their projects.

I have spent my working life in businesses with close links to the building industry, from a small timber yard to estimating purpose-made joinery for Architects and developers.
I have worked as a roof truss designer and estimator for 10 years and a floor joist designer and estimator for 3 years.
I have spent the last 15 years as a Timber Frame estimator, five years of which I served as estimating manager for one of the UK’s largest timber frame manufacturers.
My role at Sylva is not just to estimate the cost of timber frame projects but to ensure that the client receives the quality project that they envisioned for themselves at a reasonable cost, one that ensures the continued growth of our business and a growing list of satisfied clients.
As a qualified accountant I have worked in several industries over the last 20 years including manufacturing, retail, insurance and property. I have extensive experience in producing and implementing business strategy and plans, reporting and implementing new systems.
Working with a company as it grows adhering to its mission and values is very rewarding. I enjoy the challenge of reviewing and analysing the financial position of the company and working with all parties to ensure the best outcomes for the business and its partners.
With over 20 years' experience in the accountancy industry I have been involved with bookkeeping, auditing and payroll.
My role at Sylva involves every day bookkeeping including inputting supplier invoices, raising POs and invoices and generating financial reports.
